0-1JR By-Pass Oil Filter Installation

Instructions and Owner’s Manual

Deep Part of Oil Pan - Special Notes For Oil Pan Connection

0-1 JR Maintenance & Replacement Parts

Instructions and Owner’s Manual

The installation of the 0-1JR By-Pass Lube Oil Filter is a simple procedure. Three generalized steps need to be completed in order to install the filter. These steps are as follows:

  1. Mount the filter in a convenient place as close to the engine as possible.

  2. Obtain oil pressure supply from the engine and connect via hose to the filter housing.

  3. Return the oil from the filter housing via hose to the oil pan of the engine.

GCF has supplied you with a generic-fitting package that should be adequate for your engine. However, on many foreign engines metric adapters may be required for the installation of the pressure source. Most auto parts stores stock metric to standard adapters. Also, on some U.S. engines it may be required to use a larger pipe size for the oil pressure sensor. Therefore, most any hardware store will stock pipe fittings and bushings that will assist you in completing your installation.

In the process of routing the input and output hoses for the 0-1 JR filter, insure that you use tiewraps or other means to keep the hoses away from exhaust manifolds, exhaust pipes and other hot spots under the hood.

The O-1 JR filter housing does not have to be mounted vertically. The filter can be mounted at any angle, however, we recommend vertical mounting to minimize spillage of oil when changing the filter element

After installing the 0-1 JR filter, add one quart of oil in the engine, start the engine and allow the engine to reach operating temperature. Check all connections and the filter housing for leaks.

Deep Part of Oil Pan
Special Notes For Oil Pan Connection

Locate a flat surface area on the middle portion of the oil pan to install the GCF self-tapping hollow return bolt. If the hollow bolt is to be installed above the oil level, insure that the hollow bolt will be located below the level of the crankshaft of the engine. Installing hollow bolt to high in the oil pan could allow the return flow of oil to be directed onto the rotating crankshaft. This could cause oil consumption and possible damage to the engine.

Use a standard punch, which is slightly smaller than the GCF self-tapping hollow bolt, to make a hole in the lower portion of the oil pan. Using rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball, clean pan surface.

Warning !!!

Do not attempt to punch hole in cast-iron or aluminum oil pans. These must be drilled and tapped 1/8" NPT.

Once the proper size hole has been made, insert the GCF self-tapping hollow bolt with sealing washer into the oil pan using a 9/16” wrench.  Apply a small amount of silicon sealant on the rubber washer to ensure a proper seal. (*Note: Before installing hollow bolt, ensure that the pan surface is free of dirt, oil, grease, etc.)

Warning !!!

Do not over tighten GCF self-tapping hollow bolt. After the sealing washer makes contact with the oil pan, make a ¾ turn to achieve sealing.

0-1 JR Maintenance & Replacement Parts

Exterior Care: The Model O-1 JR filter is constructed of non-corrosive materials. However, in salty environments, such as driving on roads that have been salted for de-icing or on marine applications in saltwater environments, we suggest rinsing the unit with fresh water on a periodic basis.

Clamp Adjustment: After installation and the first 500 miles of use the lid clamp of the 0-1 JR should be checked for proper adjustment. Release the lid clamp and attempt to close it once again. It should require significant pressure using one hand to close the clamp.  If the clamp can be closed with a minimal effort, tighten the clamp by making turns on the 3/8" adjustment nut located on the clamp. Start by making one or two complete turns on the adjustment nut and then re-test the clamp as mentioned above until significant pressure is required to close the clamp.
